Project idea

An incident that occurred in beirut port resulted in a dead port. The dead port left trauma for the people around. Even though the port has the potential to become an urban connection. Beirut port can be further developed into a lively area by fostering a sense of place. The sense of place can be felt by visitors because of their identity, memory, landmarks, social interaction and connection. With the main concept of sense of place, it can foster a sense of community and sense of belonging because visitors have a strong bond between activities and their environment. All of that forms a connection between the environment, people and architecture.

Project description

This project area is divided into two main parts, circulation for public areas and circulation for ports. the public area is designed to be pedestrian friendly. Buildings in the public area consist of: Art Center, Commercial and Retail Area, Memorial Silo, Cultural Center, Community Center, Urban Plaza and Waterfront. The landscape in the public area connects the city area so that visitors can easily access it from various sides.

Technical information

The Component of Urban Connection makes Beirut port a lively environment. This project has many green areas so that it has a good impact on the environment such as good air quality, visitor interaction, reducing pollution, promoting biodiversity and helping reduce noise pollution. with an open space design in the project area can help capture precipitation and rainwater collection. The open space design can also be used for cultural activities, social events so that it can increase the sense of community of visitors
