Problem Statement
Poor Logistics as Precursor for Economic fall
Logistics is one of the tools that play an important role in the change and improvement of economic indicators. If the logistics sector is not well coordinated the economy will be highly affected bringing a decline especially in the developing countries and at some level in developed countries. This is because it is the backbone for the trade going on in the country, As Trade is the most important way of economic growth for any country it will have a profound impact if it stays of lower quality. For example, for most African countries, inadequate infrastructure and poor transport networks make it difficult for their manufacturers to participate in new global outsourcing and just-in-time production or ensure reliability or flexibility in the supply of the goods.
Furthermore, poor logistics has a negative impact on revitalizing and improvement of the competitiveness of other industries because today, all industries are dependent on the logistics sector. For instance, Ethiopia is a land-locked country, and most trading is done through Djibouti (90 percent) and through the airport at Addis Ababa with World Bank study assesses that Ethiopia’s key logistics bottlenecks are related to complex border clearance and inland transportation. This is because of the poor logistic facilities in existent
Hypothesis
If logistic facilities at the national level expand with fluid spatial quality in the way they speed up the delivery of goods for import and export, then the economic recession arising from poor logistic service can be solved tremendously.
Research objective
The objective of this work is to identify a set of viable and effective economic revival arising from poor logistic facilities recommendations grounded in Architectural thoughts and principles represented in a conceptual model that could, in the future, provide a schema for the international community in rebuilding and reviving their respective national economy from logistic perspective. It also tries to contribute to a better understanding of the complexity of how the economy works and the role of logistic facilities in helping boost the economy. With a good understanding of economic framework and logistics in holistic terms, it is possible to come up with designs that best serve the function of alleviating the problem of poor logistic facilities. Hence, as a general objective, the research tries to give alternative solutions to Transforming Ethiopia’s logistics system in the coming 50 years.
Specific Objectives
• Explore and analyze what an economy looks like and the cause and effects of a decline and fall
• Understand the role of logistics services quality in economic growth and decline
• Establish well-integrated and interfaced transit and customs System.
• Improve logistics service providers with space that promotes efficiency.
• Reduce the monopolistic practices in the logistics sector of the country.
• Develop Logistics infrastructure
• Build up logistics sector institutional capacity
Research Questioner
1. What are the scientifically reported repercussions of the economic crisis on the sector of logistics services?
2. What is the prioritization of the main challenges confronted by the Ethiopian logistics service providers within the recent economic recession period?
3. What is the business outlook on the prospects of the Ethiopian logistics sector?
4. How can architecture help build institutions with better infrastructure and quality?
5. What are the architectural space qualities that are required for logistic hubs?
Scope and Limitation of the Study
This project will identify the characteristics of countries' economies at a macro level in relation to Architecture and supply chain management. Explore the different factors that can be a cause for economic fall and approaches to help facilitate the revival and boost of an economy. Detailed research and analysis were conducted on a selected site of the city based on the parameters and its strong representation of the issue at hand. With the restricted time given the depth at which each factor will be analyzed is limited. Therefore, a specific site will be selected that exhibits the characters in question. Due to the limitation of resources the analysis of data is according to the relevance it has for the stipulated research subject. Another limitation that became apparent during the research process was associated with statistical data: much of this data has not been reliable and has moreover, differed among sources. An attempt was made to make the most reliable use of all sources. Even with its limitations, the study provides a platform for future research in this complex field of study
