MetaHome - The Mixed-reality Micro-housing for the Metaverse Community

Project idea

With the joint venture between the government and private sectors to inject livability and job opportunities back into George Town, the historical urban core of Penang Island with rich cultural values and heritage settings, the state first Creative Digital District (CD2) in Georgetown has been launched in February 2022. Aspired to be a ‘City Campus’ for education institutions, entrepenuership, cultural organisations, talents, the CD2 is gearing towards a destination for lifestyle, culture, arts, learning that focuses on Digital and Creative Industries.

In line with the initiative of CD2, the MetaHome, a Mixed Reality Micro-housing for the Metaverse community is proposed at the densely populated urban setting of Georgetown. The design proposal attempts to be established as a place-making core that would catalyze the evolution of Georgetown, from its heritage character into a nucleus which the digital industries and creative community would converge. It is visualized as an urban indicatorwhere collaborations of creative digital arts and innovations would take place, business and investments are spurred.

Project description

STRATEGY
Utilizing the blockchain technology, the residents are able to customize, design and purchase through the metaverse platform. Each unit is personalized and crafted specifically to the users’ need. In this case, micro-housing would no longer be stacked in repetition. The business model among developer, architect and purchaser would change. All stakeholders are involved since the beginning of design phase and the final built form is regard as the social expression of the community. Eventually, MetaHome is expressive with the highlight of collective creativity and sense of community, both physically and immaterially.

OUTCOME
MetaHome is envisioned as a vivid lifelikeness that records social responsesand sensitive to future needs. Personified with its animated facade and breathing in its significance of community living, MetaHome plays an important role in the advancement of the State’s digital and creative economy as well. Endowed with infinite possibility, it would gradually developed into a vibrant, liveable and sustainable environment where the community can Live, Learn and Create.

The aggregate of micro-housing unit is composed on a mixed reality setting, a virtually integrated physical environment that provides the end users access to digital worlds while unlocking natural and intuitive 3D human interactions. Comprised with diversed digital amenities such as augmented reality LED facade, NFT Plaza, VR discussion rooms, De-Fi Arena, E-gym, etc., the blend of physical architecture and virtual reality experience would establish the social presence within the mixed-reality setting. The realistic presence is the key to feel connected in the metaverse.
