Project idea

The aim of the competition was to renovate two multi-family buildings with a fairly low standard located in the vicinity of the park. In order not to disturb the existing structure of buildings, we decided to cover them with an additional steel structure besides their insulation.

Project description

The subject of the competition "Urban regeneration of a community in Madrid" was to create a balanced architecture of integrated urban space while respecting the Mad-Re program and Saint-Gobain Multi Comfort criteria, taking into account the climatic conditions and regional context of the Spanish capital.
The aim of the competition was to renovate two multi-family buildings with a fairly low standard located in the vicinity of the park. After the analyzes we have carried out, we have defined the structure of the residents, which were predominantly seniors. Our goal was to make the buildings as well as the surrounding area more attractive and to attract people of productive age, families with children.
In order not to disturb the existing structure of buildings, we have decided, apart from their insulation, to "wrap" them with an additional steel structure that will allow, among others. for enlarging existing apartments.
The greening of the construction will create natural shading and ventilation and suppress noise.
The problem of the area is the insufficient number of parking spaces, which is the solution for the underground car park around the buildings. The space between buildings, which should be an integration space for residents, was occupied by condominium lodgers. Along with the parking lot, we suggest moving them underground, which will release the immediate foreground of the renovated architecture.

Technical information

The existing buildings were not adapted for people with disabilities. Our proposal is to modify the communication division by the lift and transfer it to the new construction. With the extension, we propose an additional storey using a modular structure, which could be temporary apartments for the duration of the renovation, and after its completion, additional premises for rent.
By changing the communication section, we have modified the internal layout of the apartments, at the same time enlarging the kitchen and bathroom.
The park located in the immediate vicinity of the buildings creates an additional space for spending free time and is a huge advantage of the proposed area.
