Modern architecture goes hand in hand with art. Around the world, more and more amazing and expressive museum buildings are being designed. According to the principle of conformity decorum to contemporary art, diverse, defiant, multidimensional and ambiguous - a suitable receptacle.
Museums of contemporary art in the world practice often act as powerful urban cultural and educational centers. They are the most important public buildings for cultural leisure, since in addition to entertainment value, there is a direct educational benefit from visiting a museum.
The architectural planning solution of the building was developed taking into account the height and scale of the surrounding historical environmental buildings and the original dimensions of the old Tomsk quarter. The location of the museum buildings and the workshop make it possible to achieve the necessary parameters for all public spaces adjacent to the museum. Such as the main museum square and the courtyard garden.
Compositionally, the volume of the museum consists of a parallelepiped raised above the ground, with dimensions of 135 by 30 meters and seven prismatic volumes of different heights, finished with an aluminum rail.
Museum functions fit into a parallelepiped, while vertical transport and communication systems, fire exits, as well as the technical equipment of the museum are hidden behind an aluminum rail of prisms.
The building is divided into two main functions. Educational and Exhibition. With the possibility of transformation and adaptation of internal spaces.
LOCATION OF THE DESIGNED OBJECT
The project is located in the historical center of the city of Tomsk in the quarter between Lenin Avenue, Vanzetti lane, Rosa Luxembourg street and 1905 lane.
The general requirements for choosing a site for a museum building are as follows:
- transport accessibility: public transport system in the area of the museum construction, parking lots, pedestrian accessibility to the museum (easily accessible - 15 minutes walk or drive by local transport, accessible - 15 - 30 minutes);
- Preference for accommodation in the city center. Museums are the leading objects in the formation of a city-wide ensemble. Compliance with this requirement ensures equal accessibility of the museum for visitors from different areas;
- the inclusion of the museum in the complex of cultural institutions, together with other museums, theatre, exhibition hall, library, archive, information center and leisure facilities. Cooperation complements the functional program of the museum and attracts new categories of visitors;
GENERAL PLAN
The plot area is 1.64 hectares. The total area of the entire building of the complex = 8780 m2. In the north of the block, between the projected building and Vanzetti Lane, a square is being organized that performs the involving function of recreation and is a natural reservoir in front of the entrance group of the museum. On the square there are both mobile furniture and stationary benches made of architectural concrete and wood. Along Vanzetti Lane there is a dry fountain.
The project proposes the restoration and reconstruction of a water folding trading booth located on the territory. In order to modernize the function of a water source, an automatic machine for filling bottles with filtered water up to five liters in volume will be installed in the building, for the reuse of plastic containers, as well as a drop-off point for used batteries, waste paper and mercury devices.
From Rosa Luxembourg Street, the closed form of the quarter is organized by a public workshop adapted for the work of local artists with various materials. Inside the courtyard from Rosa Luxembourg Street there is an entrance to the underground car park and the storage garage, the museum garden for open lectures and outdoor exhibitions, as well as the utility yard at the workshop and the storage facility. Also in the yard, neighboring business centers and shops are loaded. Ground temporary parking spaces are provided on the territory of the utility yard.
In addition to preserving the existing greenery, additional landscaping is planned on the museum square, and planting of perennial shrubs on top of the inverted roof of the underground car park to create a favorable microclimate in recreational spaces.
The location of the museum buildings and the workshop make it possible to achieve the necessary parameters for all public spaces adjacent to the museum. Such as the main museum square and the courtyard garden.
FACADES
The main volume of the parallelepiped, raised above the ground by 2.2 meters, is made with a double contour of white frosted glazing with an adjustable light transmission system. Aluminum posts and crossbars of the facade are additionally reinforced with steel ropes.
A ribbon window with larch frames runs throughout the volume of the parallelepiped, referring in a subtle nuance both to the wooden architecture of Tomsk and to taiga conifers.
A translucent showcase is installed under the matte parallelepiped so that the internal environment visually complements the external one and vice versa.
Paraboloid Prisms finished with horizontal aluminum slats are used to hide utilities on the roof and stair-elevator units, as well as to create large and bright recreations for the main hall, lecture foyer and galleries.
The building is made in a prefabricated monolithic frame with a transverse column pitch of 6.6 meters. The median 18-meter span of the gallery and lecture hall is covered with metal trusses painted with fire-retardant paint. Reinforced concrete columns rest on a glass-type foundation. In the underground floor there is a stop for sightseeing buses, a guest parking lot and a storage facility.
