Project idea

Place
The school is located in Vladivostok on a very steep terrain in the Patroclus area.
Problems
Initially, there was a forest and 14 streams flowed here. Flowing into the lake below, the water was purified and fell into the ocean, so the water here has always been crystal clear. That is why the beach of Patroclus Bay was a favorite vacation spot among the townspeople. A few years ago, construction of a new residential area began here, which deformed the natural framework of the area: roads were let through streams, trees absorbing water were cut down. Consequently, natural processes were disrupted, the lake stopped coping with the abundance of poisonous water, and it began to fall into the ocean. As a result, the water in the ocean became dirty. At this place, a renovation project of the territory has been proposed, which includes a school and a neighborhood around to restore the eco-balance of the territory.
Solving the problem
The school and the neighborhood do not affect the natural framework of the area, the building "envelops" the filtering forest, and itself serves as a filter for the territory. In particular, the school is equipped with green operated roofs that reduce overheating, carbon footprint in the atmosphere and absorb water; rain gardens that also help to control the speed of water, its quality and contribute to the restoration of the biodiversity of the Maaka butterfly. The importance of preserving the water balance is a very important aspect of preserving ecology, since the well–being of all living organisms on the planet depends on it.
Conclusion
The use of sustainable buildings is a necessary tool for the renovation of a natural frame.
This school is at the same time an architectural dominant of the area and an object naturally inscribed in the environment.
Biodiversity has been restored and new learning spaces have been installed.
Thanks to eco-resistant technologies and materials used, it is possible to guarantee the autonomy of the object and minimize the carbon footprint

Project description

Compositional solution
The shaping of the school building is inspired by the image of Vladivostok – the Golden Bridge. So the idea was born to raise rectangular blocks on V-shaped supports in order not only to connect the bridge and the school, but also to reduce the building area. Each of the school blocks has its own functional purpose – the high school block (on the left on the master plan), the junior school block (in the middle), the sports and creativity block (on the right), the entertainment block (above the sports and creative). The composition of the school is completed by a view platform-an elevator, along which you can easily overcome the terrain (the path from the stop to the main entrance). There are also several bridges on the territory that pass over the "Dry River". The stops and the school building are also connected by express wagons. This allows you to overcome the terrain effortlessly. On the lower floors of the school there are exits to the neighborhood park and to the stadium.
Recreation
In this project there is a method of rethinking the educational process. Initially, schools had a clear division into classes and a corridor, which caused negative emotions among students and teachers. Partitions allowed children to indulge in the absence of a teacher, concrete walls negatively affected the psyche. There was no aesthetics in such a space. My project uses the method of limitless educational space, where there is no clear division into lesson and recess. Children in such a school do not "suffer" when they go to class in a plastered classroom with small windows, because it is a real pleasure to gain knowledge in spaces filled with air and light, with many thematic zones. Each classroom is equipped with sliding glass partitions. This makes it possible to interact with other classes, and the learning process itself goes into the recreation area.

Technical information

Materials
The supporting skeleton of the school is a wooden frame with massive V-shaped supports. Wood is a natural material that has a positive effect on the psycho-emotional health of a person. Also, this material retains heat perfectly (it has a low thermal conductivity). Unfortunately, in Russia there is still a stereotype about the combustibility of this material, however, with the correct treatment with flame retardants, this material is able to maintain the load-bearing capacity for the time necessary for evacuation. Also, wood is one of the only renewable building materials and leaves a much smaller carbon footprint compared to concrete. There is a lot of glass on the facades and in the interior to create the effect of "Russian expanse", the connection of external and internal, the absence of a visual boundary between class, street and recreation. The glass has additional stickers to make it more noticeable.
