Hope Village is a Restorative Therapy Center for Post-Stroke Patients using Therapeutic Architecture in Pati, Central Java, Indonesia.
Stroke is one of the most significant contributors to death and disability worldwide, including in Indonesia. One of the highlights is that 25% to 35% of 35 to 55 years old Indonesian are living with a disability caused by stroke. This started to gain some physical and physiological issues, where around their age is still their 'golden' or productive ages. However, Indonesia is lacking facilities that are supported families with this kind of special needs and problems.
Hope Village is using restorative care by Barbara Resnick as the main technique that is used in the center. Restorative care is a philosophy of care that focuses on maintaining the optimal functional ability and delivering minimal process that has a high possibility level of function in patients, the activity is slightly different from rehabilitation which is more undergoing daily range motion activity (bathing, dressing, painting, gardening, etc.) Therapeutic architecture is the based on the architecture concept since this concept does not say that architecture can heal patients, but rather how architecture can manipulate structure and space by providing other elements such as natural elements, color, sound, smell, light, and also privacy support the formation of healing environments that being tried to apply on Hope Village.
The idea was to connect the 2 separate buildings and created spaces that integrate the exterior and the interior since the site was surrounded by nature. To create clear and easy access for the user, the positioning of the spaces was differentiated by the space's main functions, such: On Building A is mostly occupied by the center administration offices and in-house apartment for the user, and the connection bridge between a landscape area called "the transport" since it is being used as a media to helps the user move from one building to another building, and the last one is building B where all the treatment spaces and the rest of the supported area located.
