Project idea

A renovation project of residential unit for a multigeneration family consisting of a working middle-aged couple, a teenager, a young child and an elderly in a wheelchair. Client requests for an open kitchen, a space to work from home and as many storage spaces as possible. With such brief, accessibility and user-friendly requirements are taken into consideration.

Project description

With the ongoing pandemic, people often spend more time inside, with adults working from home and children with online school. The design of this space incorporates the mixture of classical and contemporary elements to create a warm, welcoming atmosphere where the users can “reminisce” the days inside. Following the principles of ancient Chinese philosophy ‘Feng Shui’, the design seeks to find balance and harmony between elements (wood, metal, earth, water, fire).

Technical information

The kitchen & dining area is designed to have an open concept where the family can cook together. Marble table tops and kitchen counters highlighted with gold accents brings an inviting and luxurious atmosphere to the space, with burgundy velvet upholstery for the bar stools and warm yellow velvet for the dining chairs. A mirror ceiling above the dining table and on the walls creates a more spacious look to the space, as well as representing the metal element of the Feng Shui concept. Grey calacatta marble tiles are used for the flooring to complement the warm wood walls and black kitchen set.
