Project idea

The new building of the Academy of Architecture and Arts of the Southern Federal University is located on Maxim Gorky Street in Rostov-on-Don, near the long-operated building of the former women’s Academy.
The idea of the project was to create a comfortable place for studying for all architect students in not wery good build building.

Project description

I was developing the floor of the Department of Architectural and Construction Design, which is characterized by the design of residential complexes. Also here are fragments of other floors made together with Daria Gladkova and Maria Kolesova.
The lecture hall is an amphitheater with a full-length projection board and rows of seats with folding tables. The audience is deprived of sunlight, but the variability of illumination helps to avoid discomfort. The auditorium provides both diffused light from the ceiling; directional light on the board; illumination of steps and glass blocks, allowing you to visually expand the narrow corridor of the building; and personal illumination at each row, allowing you to take notes while the projector is running.
An auditorium for practical classes with the possibility of creating two isolated spaces using a sliding partition. There are 3 types of seats in the auditorium: ordinary tables with chairs, the peculiarity of which is mobility; tables that turn into a window sill, they suggest the opportunity to study standing up; and side-by-side comfortable chairs that help to maintain posture.
One of the classrooms of the Department of Urban Planning. This auditorium is equipped with a variety of tables convenient for layout, 3D printers and storage areas. The auditorium is designed for teamwork of students, and therefore, the desks are grouped.
An audience for practical mockups. There are many places for storage, tables with the possibility of sorting garbage.
In addition, there are high tables for convenient work at the computer, 3D printers and spotlights that allow students to perform full detail layouts.
Exhibition space/coworking. There is a multifunctional space with the possibility of deformation depending on the needs of the academy. Usually there is a soft area with poufs and tables with sockets. During the viewing, panels are pulled out to view the students’ work.

Technical information

The work on the building was carried out jointly with students of the Academy of Architecture and Arts (our joint renderings are presented here), we tried to give the existing layout maximum functionality, make the interior comfortable and individual for each department. The floors of the building have their own colors, which allows students and teachers to instantly navigate.
