DRUG AND THE YOUTH An urban design approach to mitigate the epidemic of drug addiction and crime in the city: case of Amritsar
Aim of the Project: Transform the urban environment in order to resolve the issue of drug addiction and crime in the city fringe.
Objectives:
o Investigating and restructuring the connection and access which enhance drugs and crime activity.
o Generating alternate source of economy by improving the spatial configuration of the area.
o To Empower and strengthen the group which is negatively affected by drug addicted.
o Providing infrastructure to engage youth in different activities and turning away from drugs and other evils.
Drugs cannot be eliminated completely but their existence and adverse effect on the social and mental life can be improved and grassroots cause of drug addiction (Inequality, Identity, less opportunity, lack of vision, education, awareness and mental health) can be eradicated through urban design interventions.
Develop urban design Strategies for restructure the connection and access which enhance drugs and crime activity and provide enough resources, opportunities and exposure to give a strong reason to associate with the people and place which dramatically improve the mental health of people, perception of safety and individual confidence.
