Project idea

Gujarat is known as the “State of Oneness,” and the cultural heritage values reflect the community’s unity. Since with modernity, the addition of rational
and functionalistic approaches was there, but it overlapped the historical principles of the state as well.

A site of about 480 units surrounded by greenery situates near the banks of the Sabarmati river. The Interlocking of its blocks deviated from traditional typology and instead investigated a significantly different manner of life. Moreover, the vast interconnected network of dwellings
and public spaces merged within nature not only objectified a type of design but resurrected the historical roots.

Project description

SITE
Site with huge roof gardens, manicured sky terraces, and public areas introduced within the design was for the betterment of the community. Recreational aspects, socio-cultural zones, and societal activities also mirrored the unified approach. The prioritization of pedestrians over
vehicular motion pivoted the site into massive green spaces.

BUILT
The design provided communal places within the building blocks and far-reaching views from individual units to maintain the seclusion. Moreover, residential amenities and services were interspersed within the beautiful flora while providing opportunities for social interaction, relaxation, and entertainment.

Technical information

The 25 blocks, which contain 471 magnificent units, are stacked and interconnected on five levels. Virendeel girders and shear walls are the major members of horizontal and vertical loads of the structure, whereas floating columns, beams, and slabs transfer the load at the block level. The services of each block, on the other hand, were interconnected to core services at the bottom of each layer based on the varied block arrangements.

Apart from the interconnected units, a row of seven villas facing the river was also envisaged.
