My project deals with the designing a pause point for pedestrians that showcases the heritage of the city through media, gallery, seminar and workshop spaces, souvenier shops and lastly a cafeteria, all of them reflecting the heritage of the city via lifestyle, religious diversities, colours and dynamics, artefacts and handlooms etc..
The scope will certainly just not benefit the knowledge of the lost heritage of Ahmedabad, and its history but also would generate revenue for the artisans there are provisions of skill development seminar rooms, workshops and studios; Gallery for localists to exhibit their art of textile artefacts and upholsteries, handloom, weaving and selling of artisans handloomed works in souvenier with full margins of money being paid to them without any interruption of retailers in between. In short the aim is emphasizing the usage of local goods so that local peasants can ean their livelihood.
There are many parameters of this proposal to actually be exhibited, like who will fund the cost of construction, maintenance. NGO's and Ahmedabad Municipality might agree to give financial support, but how practical is the project since the intention is to remove the current dilapidated Calico dome which has a historical and moral significance of being the India's first metallic geodesic dome.
