The connection between Ex carcere and Castello Aragonese is achieved through improving the existing urban structure. The main urban idea consists on clearly connecting the coastline with the center of the city.
That led us to rethink the area around Ex Carcere, to make it more practicable and welcoming as a leisure place.
We designed a cover for the existing Cathedral to preserve it and to use the space for different events.
A new art museum is settled on the ruins of Ex-Carcere.
This place combines both a museum and a bar open on the place surrounding, creating a pleasant area along the sea.
On the other part of the project, the Cathedral is covered by light horizontal roofs. It’s composed of panels disposed at different levels to remind the naves’ original organization. The metallic structure roof seems really light, maintained by thin pillars and covered with wood.
Drawings are composed by masterplan 1:2000 and 1:500, plans, sections, prospects, axonometries and renders.
