This project was about to create Marine research center that would include education and research about the marine life of Indian coastal areas along with an oceanarium for observation and entertainment purposes. The need for such centre was to make the people more aware about their country's rich marine life and biodiversity of aquatic life, an edutainment institute with scientific research, conservation, observation and recreational areas.
SCOPE-
• A brief idea of what the project will be basically deal with are :-
-Acrylic marine exhibits to display different marine environment and its
biodiversity.
-static marine displays
-quarantine life support systems
-research centre with labs
-audio visual rooms
-underwater tunnel, restaurant and observatory
-admin and staff space
This marine centre includes 3 building blocks on the ground that are the admin block, oceanarium cum academic block, canteen block, and a dolphinarium. It also includes an underwater observatory for the researches. The project aimed at :-
To duplicate a particular ecosystem on a comparatively smaller scale,
without disrupting the actual natural aquatic environment.
• It is one of a kind projects the first ever proposed in India and has a potential to become a major landmark of the area.
• To evolve a site responsive building i.e. the design scheme that takes
maximum advantage of the site morphology and establishes man’s
relationships with the built form in consonance with the marine environment.
In the oceanarium and underwater observatory strong acrylic glass sheets have been used in displays. For the oceanarium small tanks these acrylic panels thickness ranged from 8-12mm. The other technical details about the materials used in these structures have been attached.
