Project idea

The main goal of the project is to create a realistic possibility of transforming the STU space. Project advantage in
opportunity to realize it step by step.
Demolishing all existing buildings and creating a new project from scratch is always the easiest, but less realistic way. This project takes into account the need to reconstruct an existing laboratory building and transform it into new structure. It have to have a connection with existing buildings, but at the same time preserve the individuality of the building and create a stylistic connection not only with the buildings of the campus STU, but also with buildings located near the territory.
Another main problem is that existing areas are mainly occupied by static traffic and do not benefit from the lack of greenery. In terms of operation, it is necessary to strengthen the existing connection to the main public spaces – Nám. Slobody and Radlinského street, as well as to the main communication and social areas of faculty buildings, especially at ground level.

Project description

The first step in the implementation of the project was to rid the area from unnecessary buildings. Transformation of the heavy laboratory building in the courtyard of the STU campus is the most important and the heaviest of all tasks. Part of the building and the original glazing are preserved at the former laboratory. Former laboratory connected with the new building on the 3rd floor. The main element of the proposed building is its open atrium, the heart of the building around which the life of the interior takes place.
All floors are divided according to their functional purpose.
Underground parking takes up the entire underground area of the building.
Determining the sunny side for landscaping the roof space on this side is the next important step. Part of the roofs of the building are illuminated from the sun. unexploited landscaping on one of the rooftops is used as an ecological and aesthetic space. another green roof serves the purpose of creating a social space for relaxation and communication.
Solar panels are proposed to reduce energy costs. Also, the building has a sufficient percentage of glazing to save on lighting
