LOCATION, WHICH HAS ALWAYS BEEN AN IMPORTANT TRANSPORT HUB IN PRAGUE, AFFECTS FOUR DISTRICTS (KARLIN, ŽIŽKOV, NEW TOWN AND VINOHRADY).
//Goals:
- pedestrian support
- security of the territory
- improved orientation
- enough interconnected greenery in the area
- new living and services for people
The aim of the design is to create a place primarily for people, so care is taken to ensure pedestrian permeability through the area with plenty of green space. In particular, the interruption of Křižíkova Street - i.e. the connection through the park to Florence - will greatly simplify the complicated transfer between the metro station, bus and train stations. The roofing of Masaryk station, which forms a diagonal connection between Na Florenci and Opletalova streets, also contributes to the improvement of the situation. A fundamental change is the relocation of the bus station to the centre of gravity of the area.
The original buildings in the area were demolished to make way for the new urbanism. By connecting the park greenery and removing part of Křižíkova Street, the pedestrian accessibility of the area has been greatly improved.
