DAY CARE CENTRUM
The task was to create a day care centrum for elderly people as well as young people where they can spend their time together and meaningfully.

RENESANS as "rebirth" by its name refers to the rebirth of body and spirit, the re-acquisition of meaning and the feeling of necessity. Rediscovering the excitement of activities and the joy of spending time together. It connects the Old with the New - the old generation with the young.

Project description

DayCare center RENESANS located in Bratislava, Jarovce.
The role of the center is to serve people, especially the elderly or the physically disadvantaged, where they can spend their free time together. It gives them opportunities to constantly enrich their spirit, their inner world, expand their skills and create valuable relationships.

CONCEPT
RENESANS as "rebirth" by its name refers to the rebirth of body and spirit, the re-acquisition of meaning and the feeling of necessity. Rediscovering the excitement in activities and the joy of spending time together. It should connect the Old with the New - the old generation with the young. Linking these two age groups is a beneficial concept for both generations. Children can learn from the most experienced ones of our society. The children get to know all the levels of human life through the elderly people. Unfortunately, not all children have their grandparents and this way the absence of their own grandparents can be partially replaced. Children and seniors can play together, talk to each other, learn from each other and spend their time meaningfully. This connection gives seniors a sense of need in society. They have somebody to pass on their life experience and knowledge to, and this ultimately gives them the meaning that one needs so badly.
And last but not least, direct contact with young people does not allow an adult person to grow old. He/she stays young with spirit.

Technical information

MASS, DISPOSITION:
The mass of the building is in the shape of the letter "L", which creates a calm shelter separated from busy traffic. This ‘shelter oasis’ provides a rest area for visitors, who can relax here in an embrace of nature with plants, trees, vegetables and ponds...
Seniors and children have the opportunity to grow plants, vegetables or fruit together and do manual activities in the heart of piece of nature. On the first floor, there is a section intended for the members of the center for easy access for anyone, regardless of physical ability. For example dayroom, creative workshop room, kitchen, cafe and of course hygiene. There are also training apartments, which are separated from the social part of the center and situated in a more remoted and quieter part of the area, oriented to the southwest.
On the second floor there are rooms for staff and management. There is also a terrace with a view of both of the streets and also the garden. There are mezzanines with a study and a bedroom above the training apartments, which provide a lovely view down through the gallery to the living room. Thanks to the large windows a warming southwestern light is brought into these spaces. The living room is connected to the exterior by a gantry and gives the feeling that one is in constant connection with nature, even though we are indoors.
The main social dayroom is a space that offers enough qualities needed for various events, starting with creative workshops, through literary meetings, concerts, games, movie screenings, celebrations or dance balls. The cafe is located in the corner of the layout, which is well visible from both streets even from a great distance. Glass panels and a view of the lovely cafe invite visitors to take a closer look at this object and enter it. The mass of the center is formed by two "barns". Simple block buildings with a gabled roof, which are connected by an entrance "neck" with a walkable roof and a terrace. What the material concerns, the object is made very simply and sensitively to the environment. The surface is made of white Rheinzink sheet metal and the entrance is covered with a white ‘wing’, which protects the visitor from weather conditions even before he gets into the safety of the interior. The whole building was designed with great humility and regard for the environment in which it is set. The goal was not to create a dominant or aggressive architecture, but the opposite. It was an attempt for gentle harmony with all what this place has to offer.
