ZOOSCAPE (IMMERSION IN NATURE) TRANSFORMATION OF ZOOLOGICAL PARK IN THE SUBURBAN OF CITY

Project idea

A safari zoo (short for wildlife park) is a facility in which animals are confined without enclosure and a zoo (short for the zoological garden) is a facility in which animals are confined with enclosures, displayed to the public and in which they may also be bred.
In the increasingly urbanized world of today, man is losing its most essential interaction with the natural world and consequently becoming different from it. Zoos can help fill this gap by showcasing nature to create greater concern and awareness.
For this purpose, this project proposes a new type of zoological garden a new design for Lahore while utilizing the existing site of Safari Zoo Lahore, to help fulfill its role in showcasing nature and creating a natural habitat for animals and also to develop this as a recreation center in the best possible way.

Project description

Unlike the world, in Pakistan zoo and safari parks are the most neglected recreational places. Internationally zoos and safari parks are well designed and well maintained. With trained staff and updated research centers. Lahore safari park is one of the known parks of Lahore and like the other wildlife parks of Pakistan, it is also underdeveloped. With large un-designed land, no design habitat, lack of trained personals and no research faculties it doesn’t even stand close to international wildlife parks.
With the rapid rise in development and infrastructure of various countries. Vast extents of land which formerly were forests or natural habitats and breeding grounds of biodiversity of plants and animals are now being turned into concrete jungles. Cities are engulfed inside a dome which cuts off all activities related to the natural settings, this fails to educate a visitor about the world's abundance of zoological and botanical species and ecosystems, which once used to flourish. A zoo triggers a number of mental stimulating inside a person. A visitor when in contact with a new species and animal questions the facts about the animal. this makes the person aware of the ecological and environmental issues in the world, the mass extinction, and the depletion of animals and plants. This is very important in the current scenario for the younger generations to realize and react in a positive way.
