Project idea

The project brief stated that I should design a house and workplace for a South African professional in Midrand. Six professions were given for my own choice and I chose a Fine artist, Leonardo Drew.
My client insisted that my design should be easy and comfortable for them to use, as well as make use of current technology. Needless to say, I would need to accommodate my client's specific ergonomic requirements. The focus is on creating a lifestyle that allows flexibility, entertainment, and work. The priority is centered on the personality and
the specific requirements often related to their profession.

Project description

As my client deals with objects and makes sculptures for his fine art, that was where my concept was derived from. I planned to make the layout of the building more sculptural and yet flexible with the interior spaces so that he can feel like he's at home and in a workplace. The given site was located next to a valley. That was an advantage for my client regarding getting ideas and inspirations to design a new sculpture every time he looks at the outside views.

Technical information

FOUNDATION: All Foundations to be a minimum depth of 75mm. INTERNAL WALLS: R.C. Strip foundation to ENG'S design and detail.
EXTERNAL WALLS: R.C.Strip foundation to ENG'S design and detail.
All Foundations must be cast in strict accordance with the ENG's detail and specification.
WALL CONSTRUCTION
Internal walls to be 110mm or 230mm as shown on the plan.
External walls to be 270mm NPF clay brick walls with 50mm cavity as shown on the plan. Provide every brick force reinforcement at every fourth course and butterfly wall ties in all cavity walls at a rate of 1 wall tie per meter square.

MESH RC CONCRETE SURFACE BED (AS DETAILED AND SPECIFIED BY

MEMBRANE TO SANS MARK 952-1985 TYPE C LAID WITH MINIMUM
150MM OVERLAPS AND SEALED WITH GUNPLAY PRESSURE SENSITIVE
TAPE ON 50MM SAND BLINDING ON 150MM LAYERS OF THICK 95% MOD
AASTHA WELL COMPACTED GROUND / FILL AS SPECIFIED BY THE
ENGINEER

FIRST FLOOR - FLOOR CONSTRUCTION
FLOOR FINISH (AS INDICATED ON PLANS) ON 30 mm CEMENT SCREED
ON REINFORCED CONCRETE SLAB. CONCRETE SLAB TO BE
CONSTRUCTED IN STRICT ACCORDANCE WITH THE ENGINEER'S
DETAILED AND SPECIFICATION.
