Project idea

The design was considered from the perspectives of the city and the school at the same time, mainly to solve the problems such as the weak connection between the campus courtyard of the Slovak Technical University and the main public space of the city and the homogenization of the interior space of the courtyard.
Because the existing buildings around the courtyard are highly enclosed and the facades are complex, we wanted to solve the problem with the simplest elements -- a cube and an air corridor.
With our school's city of bratislava castle and the city walking street as the intention, through translation, above the heavy lab on one side of the courtyard in a city for school teachers and students and the public sharing "cube", in the cube of the walk ramp system in meet the demand of school teachers and students as well as urban public on various aspects of function space.
The air corridor not only strengthens the connection between the city and the school, but also increases the spatial level of the courtyard, which reduces the sense of pressure brought by the enclosed buildings.
Because the main functional space is placed on the side of the courtyard, the homogenization of the courtyard space is avoided, and the space is divided into two parts, leaving a large area for outdoor activities, so that students can enjoy the open campus space in the limited land area.

Project description

Question:
1. External (urban environment)
· Weak connection between important urban public space and courtyard;
2. Central (Enclosure Building)
· The building envelope rarely opens to the inner courtyard and has little connection with the inner courtyard;
· There are few connections between the college buildings;
· The buildings around the site are high in height and have single facades in the same direction, resulting in a strong sense of enclosure and pressure on the inside of the courtyard, and weak interaction;
· The building is strongly enclosed, and the internal courtyard is difficult to have a great connection with the public space of the surrounding city;
3. Interior (Courtyard)
· There are too many parking Spaces on the ground, and the courtyard functions mainly for parking;
· Transportation space occupies the vast majority of the area;
· The landscaping of the courtyard is cut off by buildings and parking Spaces, which is not systematic;
· Hard pavement material is single and unfriendly;
· There are two entrances and exits of car dealerships in the site, and people and cars are mixed in the site;
· The heavy-duty laboratory inside the site is solid in architectural form and facade, which blocks the sight in the courtyard and creates a sense of constraint;
