Every ecosystem works on basis of many symbiotic relationships, while one can argue on many relationships that exist around us, I questioned how the current relationship between a human being and its surrounding can be more intimate and conscious.
As a try to answer the question above, this thesis presents an experiment which if successful can mend the imbalance in this relationship by using architecture as a tool.
Starting with something as small and intimate as a home, it aims to go as big as changing the architecture of the world to something that encourages the users especially the new generation to adopt a new lifestyle close to nature and allows us once again to develop a strong connection with our surrounding.
The context chosen is an urban - under development city, Visakhapatnam, India, surrounded by rich natural elements that are slowly deteriorating because of industrialization and pollution. The project will be piolet project to set an early foundation for the development of this capital city to a metropolitan one; also it will stand as an example for other developed and developing cities.
Experiment Scope : The project is targeted on users who are keen on adapting to such a lifestyle and actively engage with their environment and its natural elements. Here program is developed focusing on people of certain interest in financial background to set some basic conditions for initial experiment. But similar to landmark projects done since decades, in the coming future this project can be seen as a new example to be taken up by developed and developing cities.
The program and design might change according to social, economical and ecological norms but the idea will be adapted by many to bring a change in future urban lifestyle.
This project is a residential tower of 16 floors with 65 living units with a steel structural system. Along with the units the programs includes functions like urban farming (green house and hydroponic farming) ,farmers market, co working space, gardens and parks: including various systems like waste management system, water recycling and harvesting system and solar power harvesting system.
