Revitalization of Dumaguete City Park "DUNGAW"

Project idea

The redesign park's new vision is to connect people of Dumaguete City to a green space that plays important recreational, environmental and cultural functions contributing to a better quality of life.

Since Dumaguete City as a fast growing city in the Philippines, traffic flow around the downtown area is now a problem and thus some vehicles are park around the premises of the city park makes the road narrow.

The people of Dumaguete nowadays are looking for new spots that is inviting and at the same time, adventurous.

So as a designer and future builder's, we design the park based on the stated problem and to give the city park a new life to the people.

Project description

We came up with the design solution based from the city situation has, that the design can give a new life to the park and also connect to the people and the environment.

The existing city park right now has a relatively flat ground which makes it boring and less lively. We elevate one corner of the park for two(2) main reasons;
- First is to make basement parking area for the surrounding vehicles to park.
- Secondly, is that to have a unique feature that makes the city attractive to people at the same time.

Also this elevated city park helps prevent from flooding the area. Since Philippines are prone to typhoons.
The city park design are not just for aesthetics but it is multi-purpose to all activities.
That's why we came up to design concept which is "DUNGAW" literally means "to look at". To look beyond the city scape itself, we give the people of Dumaguete and also people all over the world something that is new and unique design of a city park that allows all users to see a whole new perspective of the beautiful city of Dumaguete City, Philippines.

The site area is surrounded by establishments, fast foods, private property and government buildings.
