Project idea

The main purpose of the project was to meet all requirements for the construction of the Innovation Center of the Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava. The goal was to connect the newly designed building with the Freedom Square using the portal . The shape of the object is based on copying the original mass, then adjusting the size of the mass according to the spatial requirements for individual functional units. Finally, turn them to interesting and important views. At the same time, the buildings copy the direction of the golden ratio.

Project description

The result is designed building, which includes an innovative science center, educational, social, multipurpose and leisure spaces both indoors and outdoors and also the Rectorate. The object has 10 above floors and 2 underground floors. The underground floors are used for parking. The above-ground floors are devided according to the required areas into innovative research center, presentation center of science and research, recorate, social and multipurpose spaces, study rooms, factory center and cafe. The cafe is located on the 8th floor and it is the point of reference that connects life at STU and the public, which can use the already mentioned portal from Freedom Square.

Technical information

We shortened the original heavy laboratory building by 1/3 of the building and built a new one instead. We then stacked individual floors above the heavy laboratory building. The ceilings are made of monolithic reinforced concrete slabs. The ceilings are supported by reinforced concrete columns and are copied on individual floors above each other.
We designed the roof of heavy laboratories as a green walking roof, which can be used for reaction.
The last two floors have a supporting structure formed by a massive lattice structure. To support these upper two buildings, we decided to support them with auxiliary iron columns.
As for the perimeter cladding, in the original laboratories, we chose a green façade to lighten an already tall and massive building so that it harmonizes with the surroundings and does not make such a difficult impression. For the built-in buildings, we chose a combination of glazing together with profile glass - copilit.
We also chose an outdoor staircase which is embedded in the building of heavy laboratories.
