Project idea

The project was a redesign for two educational buildings of Al Shorouk Academy buildings and to convert them to Elderly Housing
The structure of the buildings was preserved with some additions and merging the two buildings to become one entity.

Project description

The new project is designed to meet the needs of the elderly in terms of medical care, with the provision of multiple means of entertainment, workshops for productive activities, and an exhibition for displaying and selling guest products which achieves the main idea of the project that did not just reconstruct a mini-hotel, but it serves as a comfortable home for the users by providing the opportunity for social rapprochement which achieved by establishing common activity spaces and salons to be like a family for them.

Technical information

-Before the start of the project, all the structural elements in building (A) and (B) were studied,
From columns, tiles, and stairs, were taken into consideration to preserve the existing building’s structure.
The structural elements were used in the new design as a major determinant that governs the redesign process.
New structural elements resulted from the addition of extra elements and those were put in the new floor plans as shown in the figures.
The pre-openings in the tiles have been preserved to keep the building from collapsing.
The Lecture hall was used as a dining hall and the other one was preserved and its use changed to a theatre.
-To provide a healthy and productive environment, it was important to pay attention to the environmental treatments of the buildings, as ventilation and natural lighting were studied and considered in the design phase to achieve a breathable and comfortable building.
