Project idea

The project Flowing Curves-A Film Institute was started with a thought that sustainable buildings are not at all restricted with straight geometries. Each and every curve of this project is playing its own important role in making the whole building more and more comfortable for the users and helping them to interact and to get connected with the nature in a better way. Therefore, We can say that curves are flowing in every direction with specific reasons to increase the productivity and to enhance the comfort level of the users and also minimizing the carbon footprints as well in order to make a step towards mission 2030.

Project description

It was a Film Institute Project which was designed as a sustainable building, A building which has its own ecosystem for its users.
After analysing all aspects for the form of the building the final form was deduced. A form that can make sure the both Visual as well as the Thermal comfort of the users. As the form itself allows the maximum amount of the daylight to fall in the required spaces.

The subtraction and openings in the form was made in a way that it makes the interior spaces thermally comfortable later on more analysis and simulations was done to insure the all these things.

- To check the proper working of all passive strategies used in the building, many simulations were done .As spaces like studios which doesn’t required any type of openings in them, were placed with south facades but the problem arised by the increase in the overall U-values of the spaces . Therefore,to resolve this issue a strategy was introduced which was basically a kind of buffer that was created between the external facade and the walls of the spaces next to the facade so that the process of conduction does not take place and heat doesn’t comes directly inside the spaces. Later this buffer was filled with some vegetation to maximise the heat reduction effect.Later on, this strategy was analyzed using the heat simulation for both the cases to check that the green buffer will work with real conditions or not.And as result shows that the inside walls of the proposed case on the right is actually less heated as compared to normal base case.

Technical information

The building envelope was designed in a way so that users never feel disconnected from nature. This is the reason that even the vertical circulation is going through the terrace gardens ,just to maintain the experience and natural comfort of the users. As the building functioning is a Film institute , so there many such spaces where there is no external openings, there is an atrium which vertically connect all the floors from ground bringing in natural light and creating sense of one community, togetherness and encouraging interaction between different departments.

- The vertical circulation are designed in a way that gives the users an amazing natural experience while moving upwards and downwards and also these staircases helps in capturing the maximum natural air ventilation inside the building. Not just the staircases even the green buffer at the last of the building was placed in a way that it works with stack effect and also it keeps the building vertically connected so that different blocks can maintain the interaction level between them.
