The culture of each society is identified through its manifestations such as language, art, and architecture. Architecture as a matter of human life reflects the culture in every society interacting closely with structural, historical, political, economic and social features of the society. The project proposes a Dying Art and Trade Centre that designed to bring the people close to the heritage of art and trade and experience. The building will be act as a centre for futher explore the richness of arts and culture in Malacca. It also harmonizes the centre with the existing cultural context.
This Art and Trade Centre aims to provide facilities for public to experience the Malay culture in Malaysia and promotes unity in diversity as well as explore their potential, interest, creativity in art and trade. Apart from that, this project indirectly highlightly the Malay culture throughout the world.
The post and beam construction system uses laminated wood columns (vertical members) and beams (horizontal members) to create this building load-bearing structure. These loading elements are arranged in such a way as to guarantee total flexibility for the design of the facades and internal partition wall. The strengths of this construction technology, which is perfect for multi-storey buildings, lie in the freedom for distributionof the interior walls and the facility to reposition them also at a later date.
