The project focuses on re-building the residential areas by designing and building affordable housing in the empty lots of Charleston, WV.
Situated on a skinny interior lot (Lot 12), in Charleston WV, these long and narrow houses/units are designed to feel open, light and comfortable. The proposed units have 2 private courtyards each - one in the front which acts as a transition zone between the interior and the exterior space and the other courtyard splits two bedrooms in the back of the house. These courtyards, while being an ideal environment for relaxation, are connected to all major programs in the house, ensuring sightlines beyond the rooms and sufficient light entering the building while maintaining the privacy of the inhabitants.
