The aim of this project is to raise awareness about weaving, which is a disappearing craft, and to keep it alive today by modernizing it. In fact, weaving used to be in our lives, but it is not preferred as much as it used to be because we are in a mechanized age. Due to the machines, interest in hand weaving has decreased. The starting point of the project is weaving forms. Conceptual words and a concept model have been created depending on different weaving styles. The surfaces in this concept model provided the spatial layout. Inside the venue, there are exhibition areas that will raise awareness about wicker weaving and fabric weaving.
In the wicker weaving exhibition, works made with wicker are exhibited. It is explained how wicker weaving is made on the walls. Inside the exhibition, a bench made of wicker and an area where people can take photos is designed. At the same time, there is an area with a panoramic screen where the wicker weaving is depicted. In the fabric weaving exhibition, people were asked to take a journey made of fabrics. An exhibition route was used using fabrics, and spaces were designed in the exhibition space where people could sit and experience the exhibition by making openings in some places. At the same time, an area has been designed for taking pictures inside the fabrics. Writings and hand-woven works are exhibited on the fabric exhibition element. In a screen, motifs are embroidered and exhibited on woven fabrics. Weaving is also explained to people through a screen. Since interactivity is important in the exhibition, a surface where people can come and write their thoughts is designed. A cafe design has been made on the ground floor by adhering to the theme. Depending on this cafe, kitchen, storage and wet areas are designed. In addition, there are double working areas designed depending on the façade. In order to create an interactive effect in the space, a design has been made where people can create their own patterns with filaments / fabrics. The ground floor of the place is designed as a place where people can travel and experience weaving more. The upper floor has a layout where there are lectures and studios related to weaving. On the upper floor of the place, first people will draw on the fabrics and tuvels of the weavings that they want to make in common studio. Then they will be able to weave what they have made on traditional weaving machines or by weaving straw or using plastic bags. In addition, an area where people can spend time with writings and books related to weaving is designed on the upper floor. The double work areas on the ground floor are also designed on the upper floor.
An awareness of the weaving craft is created in the space. At the same time, recycling is made through the weaving craft. A different usage method is designed for plastic bags. Different designs emerge with weaving from plastic bags. The floor material is marmoleum floor which is an eco-friendly floor material. Since wicker is not a harmful material to the environment, it was used in the space. The lights that used in this project are spotlight and a light design by me which is created with the weave fabrics. By using large windows in the place, sunlight was used in abundance. While choosing the colors for the project, the colors preferred in the weaving craft were used.
