Halda Hrabůvka - inhabited town
The area of 97 ha is located in the Hrabůvka district of Ostrava. The tailings filled with metallurgical and mining material have undergone many changes in the past and its final form is still unknown to us. The currently secured, remediated area forms a kind of green island among the tangle of prefabricated housing estates and industrial complexes. The task is to create a new Ostrava district suitable for living, leisure and work and research.
The design divides the heap into three functional parts: housing, lake and park. The development area focuses on multifunctional buildings combining new housing for young couples, working singles and families with the usual amenities, as well as services focusing on the development of the region and developments in science and technology. It is not forgotten that there is sufficient contact with the surroundings and, above all, interconnectedness with nature, which is in a way unique to the heap. The layout of roads and areas is almost without exception determined by the relief, and because of the unclear foundation conditions, more or less low-rise and flat-lying development has been chosen. This means that the design is mainly on the eastern half of the heap, which, with its 'plateaus', makes this possible. The omitted slopes are left as space for woodland or parkland. The edges of the reservoir are designed as the 'heart of the heap' - i.e. a meeting place for cultural events. Due to its terraced character, the eastern sloping half of the reservoir is intended for forest park landscaping, recreation for families with children and a nature trail overlooking the Ostravice River. All this is complemented by a dense network of cycle paths responding to the infrastructure of the city.

Halda Hrabůvka – obydlené město
Řešené území o rozloze 97 ha se nachází v ostravské čtvrti Hrabůvka. Odval plný hutního a důlního materiálu si prošel v minulosti mnoha změnami a jeho finální podoba nám stále není známá. Momentálně zabezpečené, sanované území tvoří jakýsi zelený ostrov mezi spletí panelových sídlišť a průmyslových areálů. Úkolem je vytvořit novou ostravskou čtvrť vhodnou pro bydlení, trávení volného času i práci a výzkum
Návrh rozděluje haldu do tří funkčních částí: zástavba, jezero a park. Oblast zástavby se zaměřuje na polyfunkční budovy kombinující nové bydlení pro mladé páry, pracující singles i rodiny s běžným občanským vybavením, ale i službami zaměřující se na rozvoj regionu a vývoj v oblasti vědy a techniky. Nezapomíná se taky na dostatečný kontakt s okolím, a především na provázanost s přírodou, která je na haldě jistým způsobem jedinečná. Rozložení komunikací a oblastí je téměř bez výjimky dámo reliéfem, a z důvodu nejasných podmínek zakládání byla zvolena zástavba víceméně nízkopodlažní a na rovině. Z čehož vyplývá že se v návrhu pohybujeme především na východní polovině haldy, která svými „náhorními plošinami“ toto umožňuje. Vynechané svahy jsou ponechány jako prostor pro zalesnění či parkovou úpravu. Okraje nádrže jsou navrženy jako „srdce haldy“ - tedy místo setkávání a konání kulturních akcí. Východní svažitá polovina je díky svému terasovitému charakteru určena pro lesoparkovou úpravu, rekreaci pro rodiny s dětmi a naučnou stezku s výhledem na řeku Ostravici. Vše je doplněno o hustou síť cyklostezek reagující na infrastrukturu města.
