"My goal is to combine nature and the library. I want to create a place that will be used as much as it has been and actually even more. I don't want it to get in the way, but to complement the context."
Kutná Hora is a town in the Central Bohemia region. Thanks to silver mining, it was one of the most important Czech royal towns in the Middle Ages.
The building is located in the area of the housing estate, near the Jan Palach Primary School. There is also a kindergarten right next door and a playground opposite. The library is oriented with the entrance to the north, to Studentů Street.
It is surrounded on the sides by 2 blocks of flats. A small parking lot can be found at the south side of the building and also at the west side. Trash cans are located next to the south parking lot. The roof is green and accessible by the two feet that the library has. Children, women with strollers, and the disabled can safely get upstairs. This means that the local population will not lose their green space and a place to walk and relax.
The library is made of concrete and glass. The outer walls are mainly made of glass to give the readers plenty of light. The floor plan of the library is divided into 4 zones - techno, social, quiet and open space. Everyone will find the right place for themselves. On the roof there is a view of the atrium and benches. The main dominant feature of the interior is the glass atrium, which can be seen right at the entrance to the library. This gives the interior a sense of connection with nature and the green roof. Quiet rooms for studying and reading can be found on the second floor at the end of the building. They are connected by a concrete bridge from which the whole library area can be seen. Just below them we find shelves of books. Refreshments are provided by the presence of a small café on the right side of the atrium. Any lectures take place in the room with a podium to the left of the centre of the building.

“Mým cílem je zkombinovat přírodu a knihovnu. Chci stvořit místo, které bude využíváno stejně jako dosud a vlastně ještě víc. Nechci aby překážela, ale doplňovala daný kontext.”
Kutná Hora je město ve Středočeském kraji. Díky těžbe stříbra šlo ve středověku o jedno z nejvýznamějších českých královských měst.
Budova se nachází v oblasti sídliště, v blízkosti Základní školy Jana Palacha. Hned vedle je i školní družina, naproti dětské hřiště. Knihovna je orientována vchodem na sever, do ulice Studentů.
Z boků ji obklopují 2 paneláky. Menší parkoviště najdeme u jižní strany budovy a také u západní strany. Odpadkové koše se nacházejí hned vedle jižního parkoviště. Střecha je zelená a přístupná po dvou nohách, kterými knihovna disponuje. Nahoru se bezpečně dostanou jak děti, tak ženy s kočárky a invalidé. Tímto zdejší obyvatelstvo nepřijde o zelenou plochu a místo na procházky, odpočívání.
Knihovna je postavena z betonu a skla. Vnější stěny jsou zejména skleněnné, aby měli čtenáři dostatek světla. Půdorys knihovny je rozdělen do 4 zón - technockou, společenskou, tichou a open space. Každý si zdetedy najde to správné místo pro sebe. Na střeše se nachází výhled do atria a lavičky. Hlavní dominantou interiéru je právě sklenenné atrium, které můžeme vidět hned při vchodu do knihovny. To vnitřku dodává pocit spojení s přirodou a zelenou střechou. Tiché místnosti na učení a čtení nalezneme v druhém patře na konci budovy. Spojené jsou betonovým můstkem, ze kterého je vidět celý prostor knihovny. Hned pod nimi najdeme regály s knihami. Občerstvení je zajištěno prezencí malé kavárny po pravé straně atria. Případné přednášky probíhají v místnosti s pódiem nalevo od středu budovy.
