Project idea

The project is located in the neighborhood of Boa Vista, and is part of the historic center of city of the Recife, NE Brazil. The area is very diverse in regards to land uses, with a large flow of pedestrians and different means of transport. Due to its historical relevance to the city, it has important formal and informal historical landmarks that maintain its vitality. The landscape project meets urban matters regarding the quality of public space with a strategic vision, seeking its re-appropriation.

Project description

The landscape proposal seeks to transform the Alegria Street into a shared street, meeting different needs, according to the requirements of the residents and potential users. The project was designed to be accessible and inclusive, providing a pleasent experience trhough shaded and sitting areas.

Technical information

The floor patterns throughout the Alegria Square and Alegria Street are mainly interlock concrete tiles, and the sitting areas are marked by 1x1m concrete boards. 1x1 rubber floor boards were used in the center of the Square, preventing the children from a high impact fall.
The tree species were chosen according to the ones that already existed on the site, such as Golden Rain (Cassia fístula).
