The project is inspired by a desert oasis. The oasis is inspiring due to the fact that it has a big impact despite its small size.
The journey to the amphitheater is meant to be as inspiring as the journey to an oasis. Moreover, to enhance and call out to people living in the different parts of the city, the form is carved out by the city's axis. In this way, the people living in different parts of the cities get to see any form of activity inside the amphitheater. The programs are arranged to inspire people in the streets and also to inspire the artists using the space.
The most important aspect of the project, to me, is the material. I strongly believe that local materials should not be used in the "usual" way. Instead, the material needs to be value-added to inspire further experimentation of the material and to give it a new identity. This is aligned with my understanding of art and cultural spaces, where innovation is key. There will be no improvement if the material is used the same way it has always been.
