Project idea

The subject of the project is the design of a multipurpose
administrative building in a possible development area in connection
with the current construction. As part of the preceding project,
an urban study was prepared for the area, transforming the football
field and the Erpet golf center into a residential area. The whole
complex is located in the city part of Prague 5 - Smíchov (Prague, Czech republic) and is surrounded by the street Strakonická, Hořejší nábřeží and Vltava river. The multipurpose building, solved within the project, lies in
its northern part.

Project description

The new multi-purpose office building is located in the northern part of the proposed concept, oriented longitudinally east-west following the railway line. It thus partially acts as a barrier against noise from railway traffic towards residential development. The terrain slopes to the east towards the Vltava river. Along the river, a new city embankment with "commerce entrances" is designed, which connects to the embankment of the Hořejší nábřeží. The first underground floor of the building extends at the level of the embankment to the surface, offers cafe space and inhabits the ground floor along the river. The fitness center and the public playground on the roof replaces the sports use of the area, which will disappear with new construction. From the south, in the extension of the new street on the embankment, a dock for smaller vessels and a ferry is proposed. In the north-south direction, the building is connected on the ground floor in the axis with the old underpass of the railway line in the direction of the center.
The facade and the whole conceptual solution of the appearance of the building is formed in three levels. The first disrupts the classic rectangular openings of the windows by partially covering them with facade panels. the pattern is repeated every two floors, but like the glazed part of the staircase it is shifted vertically.
The second plane consists of a trapezoidal pattern of facade panels, which allow the aforementioned window overlap. The panels have a gap to make this division stand out more.
The third consists of a plastic pattern of panels, which allows the play of shadows on the facade and supports the overall expression of the facade. Plastic panels thus give the building different shapes depending on the time of day. Facade panels are white, glued in places with black so that the architectural intent is preserved. The same panels, only rotated ninety degrees, are also used to cover the playground cage on the roof of the building. Optically, they transition from vertical division
volume of the building to the open area above the river. Glazed staircases protrude from the volume on the north and south facades, shielded by vertical slats. The slats have a dark yellow shade of paint.

Technical information

The building has two receptions to offices accessible from the passage of the building. The offices are in the third to sixth ground floor, the seventh ground floor is common and serves as rentable spaces for two
lecture halls. The first and second floors are filled with wellness, video game club, fitness, restaurant and seven commercial spaces. On the first underground floor are garages, part of the fitness center and cafe.
