Project idea

Evolution of mankind today is accelerating the erasure of the past, trophies of progression and the relics of events of dissolutions; and the human of today has taken upon ourselves the responsibility of preservation and the ideology of submission to history. It is necessary to understand the significance of the convergence of the past, present and future to enable the growth of people and places.
The need for social rehabilitation oriented towards the revival of human nature because of the impact of imperial colonization and the dystopian extremism of the civil war; is greater than the need for an exposure oriented rage of utilitarian development in Mannar.
The proposal is a combination of social, economic and ecological progression and conservation. A social integration platform that brings together different ethnicities and economic standards to a common ground. The diatope; will not just revive the monopolized historical background of the context but also reign in the evolution of the future.
Post war tensions are still a grieving factor in the context of Mannar. The depletion of densely vegetated areas are accelerating due to the lack of management of natural resources and linear political orientation. Relocation of the Muslim communities who were displaced during the war are happening in a haphazard manner due to this imbalance. The Diatope aims to create a society that will diffuse the ever-growing tensions between the different ethnicities which will in return help create integrated ethnic living like in most urbanized contexts.
Regeneration and revival of small industry based economies in Mannar; like agriculture, fisheries and coastal aquaculture will not only help bring back the livelihoods of the people, but stabilize the local economy of the society as a whole.
With the post-imperialist era, and the post war situation, the people of Mannar are still in the transitional stage of accepting outer elements into their lives. The Diatope’s sensory approach to solving this imbalance with a social integration platform is one mechanism to accelerate this transitional process.
Places and people are entities that are procreated over time. The societal integrity that follows Placemaking is a crucial unquantifiable variable. This variable is the decisive element of the future of a place. Oppression led the people of Mannar into a demeaning state of existence. And the current situation of the mentality of the people portrays distrust, individualism, and primal segregation. This ideology of always maintaining distance from outsiders and disliking change due to exposure arises from societal trauma. There is a dire need for communication between intracultural and intercultural groups, different ethnicities and differently opinionated masses to overcome this air of oppression and realize that the world has evolved to become a more complex and complicated place that has a place for everyone. A social integration platform is an answer to the issues of the people of Mannar and the traumatic situation they’ve been through. The Diatope is a proposal to bring together people, provide them with opportunities and exposure and propel the contextual community to an unbound future.

Project description

the initial scope of the project was to conserve the old manner fort. but, whats conservation worth without value addition and conserving a community rather than a negative relic of the past? this was the idea that was carried out from concept to implementation.

Technical information

the master plan for this project was developed for a regional scale connecting people+spaces and communities + places.

Visualization: the best tool known to mankind for creating spaces and places that are yet to be reached. Lumion plays a major part in this project and in all my other projects, helping to understand, perceive and mould from a state of abstract chaos to reality.
