Project idea

One fifth of the population of Brno are students. There are dormitories, residential buildings, a new faculty, art gallery, a shopping center and a restaurant with terraces there. Services, restaurants and shops are located on the ground floor of the houses. After the construction, the number of new students and residents is going to increase, employment will be provided, new urban spaces for recreation and leisure time will appear.

Project description

CHARACTERISTIC OF THE TERRITORY
The territory is located in Brno. From the northern side, the territory borders on Šumavská Street and the built environment. It shares borders from the south side with Zagradnikova street. From the east side it borders on “Trojčata na Šumavské”, Moravian Library, Faculty of Law, Björnsonův Garden. Three high-rise outstanding dominants are located - “triplets”. From the western side it shares borders with Veverzhi Street, the Academy of Sciences, the Sono Center, a hippodrome and a car dealership.

ANALYSIS OF PUBLIC SPACES
The square was influenced by the construction of the university campus in Brno. It was supposed to be a wonderful representative public space. With its monumentality and characterization, the square was supposed to be a demonstration of Czech culture and education. However, its post-war development is only a shadow of the concept now.
A clear concept, which is evident from the plans, provided the creation of a square with the character of a monumental representative public space, with the magnificent buildings of Czech universities as a representation of Czech culture and education. The project of the square was based on clear compositional principles basing on the traditional approach to urban planning. Post-war construction interventions did not respect any principles of the original composition; they have made the Academic Square a non-living and disharmonious space.

PUBLIC DEVELOPMENT ANALYSIS
The area is located near the center, where there is a wide range of amenities: Administration of Brno, Lidl, Billa, Moravian Regional Library, Faculty of Law, Matyasha Lerca Gymnasium, University of Defense, Bjørnson Garden, Faculty of Civil Engineering, Polyclinic, Listovy dormitories.
The result of the analysis is the conclusion that the predominant objects in the area are buildings, educational institutions, and the administration.
Lack of amenities in the construction zone, which includes housing, art galleries, public spaces.
