Project idea

The royal collections museum represents a complex exhibition space that hosts the collections owned by the Romanian royal family.

Project description

The royal collections museum represents a complex exhibition space that hosts the collections owned by the Romanian royal family. The aim of the project is to study the numerous ways of exposing different objects in the same space and to bring all the elements together. Considering the fact that the collections vary a lot from content to size, they all must live together in the same world: the museum ensemble.

Technical information

The place chosen it is important because it represents the entrance gate to the only royal town in Romania, a gate specific for the 19th century period: the trainstation. Being the main element, it keeps the original function, but considering the polar role that it has, it will become part of a new ensemble.
The main quality of the new concept is versatility (the secondary buildings are free from theis original roles can house complex areas). The old administration house besomes the railroad museum, the watercastle becomes a temporary exhibition space and the old locomotive depot is perfect for the royal automobile museum. Also a special railroad is reserved for the royal train.
In the middle of the ensemble, right near the trainstation is the main museum. The new proposal has the old trainstation as a model, respecting all its qualities (the rough exterior layer, together with the metal layer, and the interior wooden cover). The interior space is the soft one, permanently transforming to protect and exhibit the royal objects (the most intimate space).
