Project idea

Unplanned development is one of the basic problems in most of rapid growing cities like Jessore. For this Unconscious development of the city’s urban living environment is deteriorating and becoming unlivable. Now a day’s situation of Bhairab River is not as good as it was in the past times. Most of bank areas are blocked by the careless peoples. Length of Bhairab River is around 159 km but in these days most of areas are dead. Jessore share only 25 km among the length. In the city area the river lost its life because of its misuse. Illegally built properties, like residential buildings, private hospitals, commercial buildings, business centers etc. hold the maximum space of the river. Irresponsible people of the city construct embankments and culture fish firming. Main swear system of the city use River Bhairab for its drainage. Dirty water of the drain creates water pollution and creates lots of mosquito. Jessore district development board takes many steps to develop the affected area but lackings of many objectives, it’s delaying. Consumers of the city waiting to relief from the bad effects of river and thinking one day some steps will take against to the river pollution and blockage of the river. In the study area there are some major problems those are identified as lack of facilities such as; breathing space, recreational space, space for community functions and less scope for cultural performance. These limitations in the study area are acting as the major constrains of the development as the development in the study area is unplanned and though some development are happened there with the course of time but that was developed without the concern of future development. Some redevelopments are proposed here to stimulate the development with meeting the existing demand concerning social, cultural and environmental issues. This redevelopment will meet up the demand of those people who are living in that area, such as the people who used to need a place to breath which will provide some leisure act as refreshments. Again there is the demand for community space as well as facilities like cultural center, convention center, breathing space. Through this redevelopment this demand will meted up.

Project description

The proposed project is going to serve the fresh environment for the community, whose tradition has long been established. The development which will be done in this site should harmonize with existing pattern. It is not possible to demolish the whole of existing building and build it a new to inject new life and vitality to the ageing environment, rather a complicated surgery is necessary as “Patrick geddis” puts it, so that people can once more breathe.
So it is necessary to carry out a vast amount of survey and observation to understand the surrounding socio-economic environment and its growth pattern. Then for design phase an architectural character based on the socio-economic condition of local people and environmental status should be identified and it would be a new version of the Jessore.
The projects include various types of facilities, which would offer a potential exercise on design and functional relationship among various facilities. As the project is of the nature of strategic urban intervention, it is assumed that government will undertake the project as it is done with respect our context.
