The idea and context of the site was to provide and support local personnel in providing services and working area within the art centre and to employ local workers. The art centre will introduce new work space, life drawings, art gallery, studio workshop, cinema, theatre and food or cafe area. It was then supported with research from matrix, bubble diagram and floor plan layout. Inclusion within the project was the implementation of proper material choices, BRE sustainability and approaches to obtain BREEAM outstanding rating were being practised to obtain best functionality towards the proposed new Waterside Art Centre. Furthermore the referencing from Planning Regulations and Building Regulations were thoroughly referred and incorporated towards the building. It was also to design under the consideration of building details of a particular demanding area of the project from roofing, gutter usage, acoustics, fire rated building components and material choices.
The area is located in the heart of Wales, Cardiff Bay, United Kingdom. It is located in a vacant site in Cardiff Bay on Britannia Quay with an area of 2231.3 sq. m. The site can be easily found with latitude (south): 51.5 and Longitude (west): -3.16 (51°27'48.3"N 3°09'38.9"W). The site is in between the Atradius and KPMG building and nearby the most renown Wales Millennium Centre and Roald Dahl Plass.
Site plan, Technical details with Specification and building floor plan were referred from Approved Documents (Building Regulations), CIBSE Handbook and Planning Regulations United Kingdom. The steel work construction usage is practised throughout the Architectural project with TECU cladding and Curtain Wall with triple glazed and Spandrel glass combination throughout the architectural facade material.
