Project idea

The limits exist to be over-passed, but with some of them it is impossible, while the other ones are unlimited. If the horizontal limit becomes a vertical one, the question is where is its end, if it exists at all? The Project scope is the research of vertical limit, over the roads E-70 and E-75. Vertical is represented by a tower as a symbol of power, while its content is its counterpart - museum. The tower tends to affirm the weakness of present time museum! Museum acts as a viewpoint which enables the view on the highest urban facilities, and which in that way, creates the story of their formation. It is the window to New Belgrade, and due to this it was built in accordance with Athens Charter principles. Two towers, among which one is concrete and modern, while the other is in full glass and contemporary, are standing next to each other as symbol of two parallel lines intersecting at infinity. The tower is located at that place, because it is pedestrian boundary, and when pedestrians reach there, they can go back only, but not towards the New Belgrade. This gives the possibility to pedestrians to emerge and to have the visual contact with the New Belgrade.

Project description

In order to determinate the tower altitude limit, the highest structures in Belgrade were analyzed, as well as their relative and absolute levels, what led to the tower’s height of 263 m, at the spot level of 77m. The main tower is concrete one with hollows on certain spots and lines of sight towards the structures. In this way the visitor can watch what is imposed to him only, while in the second tower, which is made of glass, has the sight possibility in 360 degrees and this tower is actually a panorama elevator. Towers are lined-up on their tops and there is the restaurant with a view spreading in 360 degrees. In concrete tower, beside the platforms that are made of the ramps which directed to the lines of sight, there are also the level floors with premises for the personnel, library, halls for rent, storage, cafes, chill zones… At these levels there are toilets too. The access to the towers is enabled from the spot level +13.53 m, while the car users have the access from the spot level +0.00 m, where they are provided by the parking place and by using the ramp, they can reach to the platform which is on the spot level +13.53 m and to get into the tower.

Technical information

Due to the height of the structure and terrain characteristics, the structure is deeply founded on piles which are connected by foundation plate 2 m thick. The massive tower is carried by concrete core, and due to the structure’s asymmetry, the level floors are cantilevered relaying on concrete core and supported by braced girders that are set in the floor level, and which are lined-up by frames, while on certain levels there are diagonal bracing. Hollowed coat is supported by steel substructure. The glass tower contains the steel stairs in order to be transparent and in accordance with concept, enabling the view in 360 degrees. It is lined-up with the massive tower on the top, but it is also braced with the massive tower by the steel frame on height of +150.00 m. The coat of massive tower does not start from the spot level +0.00 m and its lower floors are in glass (Athens Charter), while the coat is used from the level floor on which the first line of sight is spreading, more precisely at +95.06 m.
