Project idea

The idea was to design and execute a conversion a former stable into a family wine cellar for the enjoyment of our families and friends.

Project description

The interior design was changed spontaneously as we uncovered the individual parts of the construction. The cellar has a ceiling made of brick tunnel vaults. The concept of the interior is based on the honesty of traditional materials. We combined the rough surfaces of the uncovered vaults, the flat surfaces of the new concrete floor with final cement dusting, and black stucco. The core element of the interior is an oak table of our own design that was gradually complemented with old bentwood chairs. Lighting is provided by retro bulbs hanging freely on new steel rods. The overall character of the interior is underscored by a refurbished Viennese stove and an old photographic spotlight.

Technical information

The space has a rectangular shape in dimensions of 5 x 5 meters. The vault is stabilised with three steel rods to carry the weight of the brick tunnel vaults. This is why there is also a reinforced concrete bond beam in the loft.
