Project idea

Designing mosques through taking advantage of natural light in order to promote emotional security via parametric approach.

Project description

Light as a promising factor, is considered as one of the most important elements in the universe and has always being used in different forms. Artists and architects have also tried to deal with it in the most appropriate way. Light has continuously been present in the creation of architectural space of traditional mosques and different forms and functions of light are now observable in modern architecture and styles such as parametric ones. Light as a paradigm in modern spaces is designed in such a way that, in addition to maintaining conventional patterns, it is optimally used as an element affecting the architecture and promotes a sense of psychological security for people. The goal of this study is to increase the sense of psychological security and confidence-making among people through using natural targeted light in architecture combined of tradition and modernity and modeled as parametric. Now the question raised is that how and with what potential our traditional mosque architecture can be shown as the spirit of architecture in order to take advantage of natural light in architecture imposed today by the West. It is further raised how we in the form of parametric architecture can reach a plan which can improve the sense of psychological security as a subset of environmental psychology in spaces. Our hypothesis is based on the same concept, indicating that taking advantage of natural light with traditional structure in mosques and re designing it with a parametric approach and employing the concepts of digital design can promote a sense of psychological security in the spaces.
In this study, different field and library studies and multiple methods of field survey and study, in analytical-descriptive (qualitative and quantitative) form as well as analysis of information and data in the SPSS Software are used and quantitative data are qualified. To this end, a questionnaire was developed and employed and the results were analyzed regressively in line with designing mosques. In this study, several independent and dependent variables were measured to cover and confirm the hypothesis, in parallel with the objectives of the study and architecture knowledge of the past. Hence, the light, passing through color filters and based on rational knowledge and with the help of parametric design, affect the subconscious mind and directs the thoughts towards a common point. We process the objective. In this way and after observing and understanding it and when a sense of belonging is created, the fields aimed by the designers such as improving the sense of psychological security.
