Project idea

It provides suggestions for the design and construction of the temple of Saint Regal martyrs in Voronezh on the basis of the principles of traditional Russian architecture, symbolism, shapes and colors.

Project description

The choice of numerical symbols influenced the construction of the temple. Seven tents, as symbols of the aspiration of the soul to heaven, symbolize the seven members of the royal family. This shows the relationship of kindred souls, their unity and cohesion. In Orthodoxy this number expresses the completeness of earthly life and is often found in the writings. For example, 7 deadly sins, 7 sacraments of the church and 7 Ecumenical councils.
Reflection of the symbolic essence is the basis of the composition and expressiveness of the Temple. The claret color of the walls symbolizes the shed blood of the martyrs and testifies to their ardent love for God. Green shows the harmony of Divine being. White reveals the spiritual birth. Golden is a symbol of eternity and heavenly glory.
In volume, the pronounced centrality and verticality of the composition are traced, since the height dominates the horizontal. What is characteristic of the Old Russian style. The center of the composition is a powerful tent crowned with an onion-shaped cupola on a high drum. The tent expresses the deeply national Russian characteristics of the temple establishment. The golden color of the dome shows heavenly glory, and its shape resembles shed tears over such a tragic event.The elongated silhouette emphasizes the greatness of the royal family and superiority over the rest.
Also sketches of mosaic panels and elements of decoration of the Temple are developed. Proposals have been made on the subject of the filling of the environment - small architectural forms, entrance panels, lamps, benches, urns, lanterns, information signs. The eastern facade of the Temple was decorated with mosaic icons with the faces of saints. A special place is occupied by the Mother of God "Derzhavnaya" on the carved pediment of the main entrance. This image appeared on the Orthodox people in 1917 on the day of the abdication of Nicholas II. It is believed that from this moment the Mother of God took Russia under her protection. To the right of the icon of the Mother of God "Derzhavnaya" stands the face of the Holy - Martyr Nicholas, and to the left of the image of the Holy Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Tikhon.
