Church of St. Kryštof and community centre in Mladá Boleslav

Project idea

A whole complex consists of a church monoblock which is surrounded by community centre. The community centre uses a height difference of about 5 m and it is completely under the ground level. Community centre creates a semi-public space of community garden. This building was created according to motto "to see, but not to be seen".

Project description

The building plot for design of the church is located near by Škoda Auto a.s. in Mladá Boleslav. A whole complex consists of a church monoblock which is surrounded by community centre. This ground building consists of thee small parts - a library, a teaching centre with presbytery and temporary accomodation and a gallery with caffé.

Technical information

The church entrance is located from the main square. A whole church is symetrical according to the east-west axe. There is an interesting roof which is a dominant interior element. The shape of the roof is hyperbolic paraboloid. The structure consists of triangular parts made of wooden beams. This parts are filled with pneumatic ETFE membranes. Thanks to this structure there is an interesting play of shadows in the interior.
