Project idea

The project is a redevelopement of Existing Okhla Fruit and Vegetable market situated in Delhi, India. It is one the main wholesale markets of Delhi and due to rapid urbanisation the existing infrastructure is not able to support the growing trade activities. Waste management and traffic circulation along with exponential growth of small scale traders were observed to be critical issues. Thus there was a need for systematic and structured perspective towards the planning and functioning to support the growth in future trades.
The other aspect of the project is the intervention of Urban Vertical Farms for production, processing and trade for revenue generation and as measure to provide food security and employment opportunities to the urban poor households. The project generates a potential market for the buyers of organic food from nearby residential localities.

Project description

The project mainly focuses more on the planning and design of market infrastructure incorporating the vertical farms facility.
