Project idea

Hope Center for Autism is an integrated and multidisciplinary clinical, training program and educational centre dedicated for individuals with autism spectrum disorder. The main focus of the project is to help the autistic children between 4-12 year of age to achieve independence and facilitate their interactions with external environment by improving their social, behavioural and communication skills.
The Project concept relied on the main design principles for the Autism Spectrum.
The spaces are placed in such a way that each space is connected to another with a transition green area or a multipurpose space, making smooth transitions from one activity to another. All spaces are designed with careful consideration of color, light, acoustics and wayfinding.
Children with autism tend to seperate themselves from others. They live in their private space and are not willing to come out of it. Its like they live in a box.
Our aim is to get them out from private space to public spaces smoothly by introducing various spaces.

Project description

Hope: Centre for Autism is one of its kind project in India. As per CDC 1 in every 59 are diagnosed with ASD . This thesis is aimed at understanding and integration of built environment to epidemic of autism.By concentration of architecture role within the community as a beacon of fundamental comprehension and change. This project aims at creating an environment for the autistic individuals to improve their social, communication and behavioral skills by introducing multiple spaces that enhance their functioning by careful consideration of use of color, acoustics, light and texture.
Spatial sequencing and transition spaces also play a major role in efficient functioning of the centre as children with autism are very resistant to change due to which they tend to have overwhelmed behaviour, this introduction of transition space helps in smooth movement of the user from one space to another.
