Project idea
The concept is to make a public space of informal social encounter and gathering in which people from all background feel welcome as it was an extension of their own living room.
As mall thrives on its rich intermingling of spaces to work dwell learn and play all within close reach , the library i envisioned is inspired by urban convenience and diversity as it incorporates spaces of different activity and people within single building .
By constructing a building with small entities as in whole space , it then obtains a human scale and library becomes continuation of space in the mall.
Project description
in my initial layout of design i i chose to organize space according to activity requirement , in that i decided to make library space freely flowing like fluid but also organized in a manner . so to obtain that i did not introduced any walls in between but to create variation in spaces i build platforms and mezzanine levels .
To make library space a lively and cheerful environment for kids , i make circular bookshelves for them and hanging swivel chairs to sit, play and learn .staircase being the main element of design i chose to make it a multi functional by creating a cozy seating under it so it works as a seat and also as study table . another concept was to create individual carrels specifically for post graduation students so they have their own personal and informal space to learn . The main element i tried in my design is to create a vertical living wall on one of the wall near general reading area with punctures in between throughout the height of building to create a lively green ambiance for the reader . Whereas on other corner where the book core is is vertical wooden louver window system to bring dramatic light play in space .
Technical information
The total number of books are 30,000 where fiction , nonfiction and others like audio video cd , magazines , newspapers are 10,000 respectively .
