The location of the site -which is Famagusta castle, Northern Cyprus- is a very unique location due to its richness with architectural heritage. The site is surrounded with a 360° degree historical churches. Therefore placing a building mass in between them will block the visual connection that these churches had for hundreds of years.
To solve the aforementioned problem, I have proposed an idea to have provide a very transparent boutique hotel. The design consist of two parts, the eastern part contains the reception as well as all the other public facilities; and it was designed to be a transparent glass box and the other western part is the private sector where all the rooms are situated. To achieve transparency in this part, I segregated the rooms to make each room as an independent entity, as well as playing with their heights in order to achieve maximum transparency. Later I connected these rooms with leveling platforms; these platforms do not only provide a connection, however it also fills the voids in between the rooms with semi-open spaces for public gatherings and activities.
As for the technical details, the roof is designed to have a combination of mesh & void to provide semi-open space between the rooms, whereas the mesh covers the circulation area. As for the facades; parts of the facades are defined by the exterior face of the rooms, whereas the the voids between the rooms is filled with shading elements and openings towards the terraces. The platform is constructed with domestic wooden elements and is held by columns and beams.
