Theatre Populaire is distinguished by its special location, in such a hot country an amphitheater shrouded in a green zone which is ideal for various events. The main goal when designing the amphitheater was to take into account climatic conditions and a simple construction principle. Simple architectural forms allow for a simple and cheap construction process.
The amphitheater area includes the main square for various events of performances, official entertainment and ceremonies. The area is clearly divided into three main areas WORK, SHOW, LABO.
Zone WORK includes two entrances, on the east side there is an entrance for the supply of decorations, the second entrance to the amphitheater is intended for staff and for actors and dancers. In the WORK zone are changing rooms for 20 actors, sewing rooms with a separate decoration warehouse, large warehouses for decoration, repairs and technical premises.
On the west side is area SHOW zone which includes a restaurant, ticket sales, showrooms, workshops, galleries, souvenir sales and temporary accommodation for 27 actors and dancers.
On the eastern side is the LABO zone which includes four rooms (160m2) for DANCE, CIRCUS, THEATER and MUSIC. Each of these rooms, except for MUSIC, has a separate entrance, changing rooms for men and women with a toilet and showers and access to fresh air on the terrace. In addition to these premises, in the LABO zone there is a recording room, video editing room, photo studio, archive, ticket sales, warehouses for clothes, reception at the entrance to the amphitheater area.
The slope of the amphitheater has two stairs in order to climb the tribunes. Between these stairs there are additional steps for seating with a view of the city and the amphitheater area of concrete. For comfortable sitting in the tribunes for spectators added wooden boards. The same boards cover the podium.
Given the purpose of the amphitheater, it is important to consider the acoustic abilities of boxing over the podium. The shape of the box that covers the podium resembles a shell. Due to this form, the sound does not need to be equipped with an additional or excessive sound system. Sound with this form extends to tens of kilometers. Shell stage made of reinforced concrete
The architectural solution of individual areas of the range comes from the structural solution and climatic conditions. Thanks to the double roof construction, it is possible to lower the temperature of the interior without the use of cooling systems. The concept of the location of buildings in the area is to create corridors for drafts. With this expansion, severe air circulation and cooling of buildings is possible. The walls of the buildings are made of red brick and decorated with white stucco. In some places, the bricks are left without decoration and represent a wall where individual bricks are removed, such a room is more ventilated and more light gets into it. The roof of the buildings is a reinforced brick board on which there are steel trusses that hold an aluminum sheet. Between the aluminum sheet and the ceiling, air circulates and the building cools.
All aluminum sheets have a slope that is directed outside the area to divert rainwater to the local canal Mongho Naaba. The principle of construction of the stage is also a double roof. To avoid the accumulation of rainwater between the stage and the WORK zone, an aluminum sheet covers both the stage and the buildings of the WORK zone.
