Project idea

Site context
The site is a part of the master plan of Andhra Loyola college Vijayawada and surrounded by playgrounds on all three sides.
It has an existing auditorium which was only for the college purpose and they wanted a complete redesign of the auditorium which is for college and commercial usage as well. The plot is on the edge of the site and is convenient for lease.

Idea
Space which provides a stage for a variety of performances and the performances becomes a memory when space is very well designed with proper acoustics and visual comforts.so I started designing the acoustics in the form of waves to reflect the sound waves by the waveforms and then it started. Also, I wanted an eye-catching commercial appearance to get more events and generate more income for the college.

Concept_ Raising curtain
Every show reveals with the raising of the curtains, and it creates enthusiasm in the audience, So I tried bringing up that nature from within to outside of the auditorium so that the auditorium Itself becomes a stage with its curtain covered and looks as if it’s going to reveal the performance.

Project description

The design requirement is 500 capacity, I have created a water body with multiple paths on it which adds better ambience and reflection to the building. The foreground is managed with parking which gives a chance to the building to move a bit back and makes it look proper when viewed from the road. I have provided separate and defined entries for the VIPs, performers, and usual audience which will reduce the disturbance in movement. The stage is wide and huge with a golden ratio frame which is good for any kind of event. The house is fan-shaped which is the most preferable for good acoustics, it has six entries/exits as per NBC, the aisles are wide and short for better circulation inside the house, also I have developed an acoustic design with a combination of convex and concave form to have a better audio experience, detail of it is given in the presentation. The commercial facade with glazing behind and louvers in front gives better aesthetics and reduces the heat intake, conceptual detail of it is given. The back is made big so multiple contestants can do rehearsals at things at the same time. It has a big fly tower which can host any kind of performance. Service corridors and catwalks are provided for the maintenance. As the plot is surrounded by active areas like playgrounds, I got a chance to make the site also active as well. I have included a cafe within the auditorium that can be used for catering during the performances and can also act as a cafe to the players on the grounds during the absence of the auditorium’s function.

Technical information

Acoustics was done in wood with convex-concave forms and parametric punctures in the wood for the absorption of extra sound. The facade conceptual detail is provided. The entire parking is on the surface which can reduce the cost of construction when compared to the basement parking. It has 50+ car parking and 150+ two-wheeler parking. Louvers are chosen in white color which reduces the heat absorption. Staircases are placed with a radius of <30m.
