Project idea

Borella is the largest suburb in Colombo. .
Busy streets with full of busy people is a common thing in borella. current situation of borella is not a pleasant one. Unorganized city development and the chaotic streets of borella is responsible for it. Every day large number of peoples and vehicles are entering to the city. because of the baseline road and other 3 roads this will be a very chaotic situation
in all day. There is no proper place to cater to people who enter
the city. 0 public spaces are found in borella. It was a disaster……………..

City Lacking?
PUBLIC SPACES
There is only people and mass movement in the city.
It hasn’t change from any proposal until now.

City Need?
A place to stop the movement and get a rest.
A place to enjoy the life of city
A place to relax in the chaotic urban structure
A place to spent a day
This is a idea about to design a space that be free in the middle of the Urban environment.
Selected site was has got a good relationship with the art environment.one of the best drama theaters in sri lanka is situated in near the site. with using that as a advantage creating a vertical artist commune is a good solution for the busy urban environment.

Project description

Artist Commune.
This is a high rise building.Specially focus on the public crowd who using the city.
With the master plan idea Urban courtyards are introduce to the city cape.
With in that there are public pockets creates all around the city.
This high rise building act as the major node of those pockets connector of all.
Building consist with 34 floors and 4 basement levels.
Podium level act as a a open public space for the people.and it was also act as a informal public gallery for artists.
then after the podium level there is a connecting level with the bridges around the city level.then it comes to the library level .
Building consist with drama theaters, libraries, dancing arenas and the stuff that for entertainment.

Technical information

Building foot print is 3000sqm.
Building height is 139m
Concrete and steel used as a main materials for the structure.central lift core made the circulation.and also there are ramps around the building to move freely
Around the library area there is a special ram covered with the aluminium mesh.(this was coated by titanium oxide.that coating able to stop dust )

1 .Artist lodge
2 .Studios
3 .Library
4 .Theater and gallery spaces
In studios there is a aluminium cladding that insulate the air in to the building.
